So this is what I've been doing.

Hey. S'up? You're probably scratching your head and wondering why I would start another blog when I don't write for the first one? Heh heh. Yeah.

See, here's the thing. I haven't been blogging because I learned how to knit.

And I'm obsessed.

Bonkers.

I've got the fever so bad, I don't even watch TV anymore! Well, I mean, the TV is ON. Duh. But I mostly just listen to it, looking up occasionally to see how much time I've got before I simply have to do something else.

A friend in my office taught me how to do it over a weeks' worth of lunch hours in mid-October and by Christmas I'd made 30 dishcloths, about 10 scarf/ear-warmer sets, and one stocking cap. My fingers were too tired to hold a champagne flute on New Year's Eve so I drank out of a dog bowl.

I was totally kidding about the dog bowl but now I'm thinking themed dinner party.

Anyway, yeah, I love knitting. I love the logic in the patterns and am currently attempting to understand charted patterns. I love the textures of all the different yarns. I love the colors! I love that a small number of basic stitches, woven in different combinations, is capable of turning a string into something that is beautiful or fun, but always functional.

I'm still in the very beginning stages of this new passion and I make A LOT of mistakes, but I learn every time I try something new. So yeah, it's kept me from my keyboard and screen but, honestly, I'm totally okay with it.

(For Leslie: Totally worth it.)

Back to my original point: why the new blog? See, my mom, who works in stained glass - you can see her work here, her lamps are stunning, -- shows her work at art/craft shows a couple times a year and has convinced me to join her at the Soulard Market Park Arts and Crafts Fair this summer. I needed a place on the interwebs to house photographs to include with our application and mom immediately thought, blog. So here we are. Welcome to La Vie En Rows, monkeys. Stay tuned for pics, 'k?

  2. It has been cold as hell here, so if you could knit me a jock to wear while running, that would be super awesome.

    OK? Thanks, (smack-kissy-lips)

  3. Ewww this has that new car, untainted smell.

Your Ma's work is beautiful, I fooled around with stained glass for awhile but never attained her skill level. Hope she sells the dog snot out of it!

Knit me a super cool hat and I'll wear it everywhere.

  4. Love the name of your new blog! I never learned to knit. I tried crochet, but gave up before I finished my afghan.

  5. Using the ones we got at Christmas as pot holders. (Gotta double 'em over thou.)

I think you'll enjoy the craft show circuit. My parents did it for years. Just be prepared to gab. And knit when it's slow.

  7. I've been doing counted x-stitch since 1987. I know the 'addicted to knitting' feeling very well.

  8. Mrs Jack loves to knit.

    In fact she teaches it.

Mrs Jack teaches art, design and fashion at Burton College.Burton is famous for it's breweries. At one stage the smell alone could get you half cut walking down the high street. It's also mentioned in my favourite piece of poetry.

Say, for what were hop-yards meant,
Or why was Burton built on Trent?
Oh many a peer of England brews
    Livelier liquor than the Muse,
And malt does more than Milton can
To justify God’s ways to man.

Knitting and beer, does it get any better than that Gwen?

  10. Oh, do I have the names of two GREAT knitting books for you! Jan Messent's "Wool'nMagic" and "Great Knits, Texture and Color Techniques" from Threads magazine publisher, The Taunton Press. Neither are very new but they show you how to make knitted fabrics and incredibly stunning one of a kind designs. Once you have your knitting chops down pat you can get going on some truly creative, mind boggling stuff. You can probably find these through Amazon. Happy Knitting!

  12. I recently did a trade show where we were told in an e-mail before hand that we were absolutely not allowed to knit at our tables.... we were also told to dress nice and smile at people...

My advice, don't participate in those kinds of shows :)
